  2. “Taking the piss” = making fun of
  3. “Taking a piss” = urinating
  4. “Getting pissed” = getting drunk
  5. Pissed = drunk
  6. Coaster = resident of the West Coast (South Island); known for being extremely laid back
  7. Jumper = sweater
  8. Jersey = sweater
  9. Strip = sports jersey/uniform
  10. Jandals = flip-flops
  11. Box = cubicle
  12. Ta = short for “thanks”
  13. Lolli = candy
  14. Brolli = umbrella
  15. Cardi = cardigan
  16. Jim-Jams = pajamas
  17. Sultana = sun-dried grapes (similar to raisins)
  18. Aubergine = eggplant
  19. Courgette = mini zucchini
  20. Marrow = giant zucchini, generally overripe with large seeds
  21. Capsicum = bell pepper
  22. Suss (v.) = figure out
  23. Ski field = downhill ski slope
  24. “What’s the go?” = “What’s going on?”
  25. “Skull your piss!” = “Take your shot!” (of liquor)
  26. Pitch = soccer, rugby field
  27. Draw (n.) = playing schedule for sports
  28. Cruising/cruisy = chillin, taking it easy/laid back

  36. “Have a sleep” = going to bed/take a nap
  37. Sweet as! = indication of agreement, positive acknowledgment
  38. How you going? = How’s it going?  (people say this all the time)
  39. Boy racer = street racers
  40. Indicators = turn signals (in a motor vehicle)
  41. Grill = broiler unit in an oven, typically a separate compartment from the regular oven
  42. Barbeque = grill/barbeque
  43. Arvo = afternoon
  44. Sparky = electrician
  45. Joiner = cabinet maker
  46. Rubbish = trash
  47. Streaky bacon = American bacon
  48. Takeaway = Take out/food “to go”
  49. Tram = trolley
  50. Trolley = shopping cart
  51. Buggy = baby stroller
  52. “Stuff it”, “stuffed up”, etc. = f*ck it, f*cked up, etc.
  53. Car park = parking lot
  54. Gib = drywall/sheetrock (a brand name)
  55. Bach (pronounced “batch”) = small holiday/beach cottage.  Can be rustic with or without electricity, insulation
  56. To post = to mail
  57. Drink drive = drunk driving
  58. Chilly box = cooler
  59. Kiwi = New Zealander, similar to “Yankee” for Americans.  Also, a small, endangered indigenous bird and a Chinese gooseberry (otherwise known as kiwi fruit)
  60. Plunger = French-press coffee maker
